Christmas Day in May

It is so much more satisfying to give than to receive.

This we can attest to.  I have never encountered happier or more grateful children that the ones we encountered today as we handed out the gift bags that the people of FCPC sent to our beautiful Los
Tombos babies.

Today we began with another delicious meal cooked by our gracious host that consisted of fried jacks and mango.  We split into three groups, one that painted that left at 6:30 to get a head start on the heat, one that made home visits that left at 8:15, and another that finished building computer desks for the school.  We all met up at the school for lunch around noon, and shared our food with some of the kids that didn't have any.  I am repeatedly astounded that these sweet children can be so happy and lovey, yet have little to no food and live with several other people in an area that might not even be 200 square feet.  The revelation that God can do so much with so little is more than a little hard to wrap your mind around, even seeing it in person.  It's both comforting and humbling at the same time.

After lunch, the crew split up so that some people would paint and the others would hand out the gift bags.  The pure utter joy reflected upon each child's face is enough to make anyone's day.  It's a truly undescribable feeling to know that you are giving this child a piece of hope and love.  They each open their bags excitedly, but surprisingly the things that are the most important to them are not the toys or the candy (although they do love candy)- no, instead, it's the pictures of the family that sent them this gift bag and the notes their family has written to them that they treasure the most.  Many of the kids I saw would point to each of the people in the picture and say "Who's this?" and then when we told them, they hugged the picture and said "I love them so much!"

God is so good.  We have never felt our worth more to him than when we know what joy we bring to these kids or when we teach them how much our God loves us on days like today.
