We Are Here

Exctited Team (minus Joe and Linda) at McGhee Tyson Airport (4 a.m.)

We arrived safely in Belize yesterday and had a very busy afternoon unpacking and organizing totes.  We really enjoyed seeing the beautiful dresses and shorts made for the children by the Flannel Flussies.

Later in the day, we served ice cream and showed a movie to adorable children at the In His Will Learning Center, and took time to praise God with communion.  At the Learning Center, Mary Beth danced, Tom made a new hand-slapping buddy, and we got reacquainted with Andrew, who is still working with Carmen.  Andrew introduced us to his beautiful neices and his sister.  Earlier in the day, we also had time for our customary lunch stop at Cheers Restaurant.

Team Lunch at Cheers Restaurant

We went to bed very tired since some had not slept the night before and others only had about 3-4 hours sleep.  Eagle-eye French spotted a mouse or some furry creature in the women's bunk just after midnight on Tennessee time.  Lyn made sure we all knew about it.  That incident created quite a bit of frenzy.  The most amazing thing was Kelley jumped from her top bunk to the adjacent top bunk which was about 6 feet away.  We think we trapped the mouse in a chute in the wall, which allowed us to get a restful sleep with rain dancing on the tin roof.

We will be worshiping today at a Mennonite Church and taking family pictures at Los Tambos.  We are all very excited to be returning to Los Tambos -- some for the 8th year in a row.  The newbees are all doing well adjusting to life in Belize.

2012 Mission Trip Itinerary

Those of us who have been to Belize on other mission trips have learned the meaning of the word flexibility and to go with the flow in true Belizean style.  Schedules had to be abandoned on past trips when we encountered unanticipated weather conditions like extreme flooding.  The floods of 2008 prevented us from going to Los Tambos when scheduled, but this diversion allowed us to supply beans and rice to flood victims.  Watches were irrelevant last year when we were led by God into unexpected ministry opportunities.  We entered the Lima home expecting routine prayer requests and came face to face with Mrs. Lima, who had not left her home for several months after having her leg amputated.  Because we took time to show Christ's love to her, she delighted us by coming to the community celebration for a family picture.  We were thrilled to see her beautiful face as she looked at the camera!

Please do not hold us to this schedule.  The only thing that is guaranteed about our time in Belize is that God is at work in Belize and in us.  So for what it is worth, here is the schedule of things we think we will be doing, and we eagerly await God's detours.

Joe and Linda Arrive!

Joe and Linda Schnorr arrived safely in Belize on Saturday, May 26th!  The rest of the team is waiting anxiously to join them on Saturday, June 2nd.

On Sunday, Joe and Linda were able to attend Maria Montano's high school graduation. Maria is one of three high schools students graduating through FCPC sponsorship.  Maria's family was very excited to have them at graduation. Mr. Montano thanked Joe and Linda numerous times for everything our church has done for their daughter and the Los Tambos School.  The entire team will get to attend a second graduation for Marvin Lopez and Reynaldo Garcia on June 9th.
